Reality Bank Blog Number 1!

Welcome everyone to the beginning of a series of personal financial blogs, podcasts, and videos.  I’m excited to embark on this journey, and I’m even more excited to have you with me along the way.  My goal is to share my experience and knowledge with those out there looking for personal financial advice or just simply a different perspective.  Ultimately, I want to work with my readers, listeners, and viewers on an individual basis.  As anyone reaches out, I’ll schedule time to meet and provide recommendations for investments or other financial needs.

Now it’s time to tell you a little about me.  I was born in Oregon and moved to Missouri when I was five.  I grew up with a love of fishing and just being outdoors in general.  Every summer our family would visit the rest of our relatives in Nebraska; playing outside on the farms is among some of my favorite memories.  My other love is sports.  I honestly believe I am drawn to playing and watching sports almost to an unhealthy degree.  I am a coin collector and budding polyglot as well.

What you should really know about me, though, is this: I am a father and husband.  I have three beautiful children.  Our oldest son is five, our daughter is three, and our youngest son is one.  Yes, we are done having kids (haha)!  We also have a one year-old German Shorthair Pointer.  My wife and I have been married for over 6 years; it’s amazing how fast time flies.  One thing I’ve learned is that communication is extremely important everywhere in life, especially in marriage.

Here are a few last professional notes before I close.  I joined the Navy’s nuclear program where I had the amazing opportunity to operate and supervise nuclear operations on an aircraft carrier.  I finished my degree in nuclear engineering technology, but deep down I knew my career goals would include finance.  In the military, I was always helping people understand their debt, investments, and overall financial situation.  I couldn’t get enough of it.  I finally decided to commit to a career in finance by completing my CFP® (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM) education and exam prior to transitioning out of the Navy.  Now, I am beginning work for a major finance firm as a financial advisor.

After college, over 8 years in the military, multiple periods away from the family, multiple moves, multiple kids, and much more, we are all finally back home and close to family. Life is busy, but I’m happily doing what I love to do.  Thanks for getting in on the ground floor with me here.  I look forward to continuing this conversation in the future.
